Internship 2016

“Assessment in this spirit does not concern assignment of grades or evaluation of whether instruction was effective. It’s assessment designed squarely to feed into the learning process and make the learning stronger.”
― David N. Perkins, Making Learning Whole: How Seven Principles of Teaching Can Transform Education

Since my last post what I have done is just reading reports and papers about assessment models being practiced in different countries. Almost all the assessment models are generally on the same line with a little bit of variation.
The assessment models in different countries are as follow:
A) The students are assessed by Comprehensive and Continuous Examination in India. There are many organisations present for conducting surveys to assess the learning outcomes.
ASER-Annual Status of Education Report, is the largest non governmental household survey undertaken by PRATHAM in rural India. In order to make the surveys cost effective, they are based on the method of sampling. The results are found to be quite accurate and consistent.

B)Brazilian government has been using the SAEB (Sistema de Avaliação da Educação Básica) – the System of Assessment of Basic Education (Brazil, 2011a), which is a large scale, standardized assessment exam. The IDEB index(Index of the Development of education Board) provides the school grade, ranging from 0 to 10.

C)In Korea, assessment is done on the basis of National Assessment of Educational Achievement. It takes place every year to judge the educational achievement of students studying in sixth, ninth , tenth and eleventh standards.
Apart from country specific models, there are many other models which aim at improving and assessing the education system. For instance PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment). It is a study carried out every year by OECD to examine 15-year-old school pupils’ scholastic performance on mathematics, science, and reading. Currently, This study is conducted in 65 countries.

I will try to contact authorities from PRATHAM and PISA to get to know more about their models.
Now I will start working for the mid term presentation ….I just hope it goes well !
