Entitlements of tribal communities to natural resources through a gender prism

This research paper shall aim at analyzing the entitlement of tribal communities to natural resources particularly through a gendered prism. In conducting this socio-legal analysis the following research methodology shall be adopted:

Step 1: Literary Review (Week 1)
1) Readings on feminist legal theory with particular emphasis on theories of anti- essentialism.
2) Readings on eco-feminism
3) Readings on the existing environmental laws in selected countries
Step 2: Comparative analysis of environmental laws in different countries

Step 2: Case studies to establish a link between the success of community management of resources and female participation (Week 2)
1) International Examples
2) Indian Examples

Step 3: An analysis of tribal land rights movements all over India which would involve (Week 2 and 3)
1) Interviews with stakeholders such as participants in the movement, development practitioners and members of the executive.
2) Analyzing the response of the Government to these land-rights movements
3) Analyzing the role of left wing extremism with respect to these movements.
4) Analyzing the status of women in these movements.

Step 4: Final Draft of Research Paper (Week 4)

    Focus on deeply analyzing 1-2 case studies which you conduct yourself. That’s an area where you can bring out new facts, and make contributions. Think about it from property rights angle as well.

    Once you pick your case study, think about what elements of your study are “measurable”. How do you measure the impact on womyn on managing community resources.
