Newspaper Delivery System

Anubhuti Sharma
1. Research question: How does newspaper delivery system in Delhi work?
1.1 What are the economic challenges in this industry?
1.2 What are the relevant social/cultural aspects about the industry?
1.3 What are the political/legal/administrative aspects which influence it?
1.4 What is international scenario of newspaper delivery system?

2. Research Methodology:
2.1 Primary and Secondary – Explore literary material on the subject and undertake detailed observation tours.
2.2 Qualitative and Quantitative – Gather intensive statistical information to supplement the findings. Do readings in detail to evolve meaningful queries.
2.3 Past Research on this topic – May not find surplus information. Will have to find out and go through as much work done on this topic as possible to gain an outline of the issue and seek new queries.

3. Feasibility constraints:
3.1 Time – Late start is a serious hindrance later.
3.2 Resources:
3.2.1 Interviews – Crucial as they would be the most important source of information and the difficulty to carry them out properly would leave large gaps.
3.2.2 Books – Presumably scarce on this topic. May begin from the works written on the some of the most renowned newspaper firms today.
3.2.3 Published articles – Again presumably scarce scholarly articles might be available. May try to find out about international newspaper delivery systems, etc. through them.

4. Evaluating Progress:
4.1 June 20-25: Undertake extensive research on literary sources available on internet, published articles and books. Carry out 1 field trip on any of the weekdays. Gain an introductory idea of the topic through reading and observation.
4.2 Weekend: Perform a field trip again, may be to the same place or a different location in the chain.
4.3 June 27-July 2: Find out detailed answers to most of the target questions through interviews and observation. Continue exploring literary works. Perform a field trip again on one of the week days to a different location in the supply chain.
4.4 Weekend: Articulate the information collected and again to carry out a field trip.
4.5 July 4-9: Conceptualize all the information collected so far. Find out answers about remaining questions to fill in the gaps and incorporate any new information obtained in due course. Carry out a field trip or interview again.
4.6 Weekend: Carry out a field trip or interview if needed.
4.7 July 11-15: Weave together everything known into a draft paper. Carry out field trip/interview if need be.
4.8 Weekend: Rework on the draft. Look at its conceptual framework like structure, manner of narration, argumentation, listing of evidences, issues addressed etc.
4.9 July 18-19: A final polish of the paper. Hopeful completion as desired and submission.

    Very interesting topic.

    1. Focus down on more specific questions. For example 1.1 “economic challenges” is too broad, last time we meet we had broken that down into more specific sub questions, same for 1.2 and 1.3

    2. Remember this topic is newspaper delivery in New Delhi, we need many more field trips. My guess is that sitting in the office won’t get us too far given the nature of the project. Go out, find out :)

    3. Each time you go out, write a report on what you got out of it

Please make a few field trips before Friday so that we are in a position to discuss a structure for the paper

    Enjoy researching
